A Last Word on the Election

Worry about the House and Senate

Since you are reading this, chances are you have already voted. Great! If not, what are you waiting for? A written invitation? (Consider this a written invitation.)

But it is not the presidency I am worried about.

Kamala and Coach are going to win this thing, hands down. I know this because Trump lost the last election and barely squeaked by in the one before that. He won that one only because of three factors:

  • The voters did not know Trump except from TV, and they gave him the benefit of the doubt. Remember “Once he is in, he will pivot and start acting Presidential.” ROTFLOL!
  • The Russians and the mainstream media helped him.
  • Too many people loathed Hilary Clinton.

Of those factors, only the mainstream media is working for him this time, and not quite as hard as in 2016.

My old parents used to keep Fox News on the TV and they voted for George W. Bush twice. But, by the end of W’s second term, they had turned against him, along with the rest of the country. It was so bad that America elected a Black man as President.

This year, similarly, we see so many high profile Republicans disrespecting Trump and endorsing Kamala Harris, that you just know a lot of rank-and-file Republicans have defected from the Trump bandwagon as well.

On top of that, the abortion rights issue is causing a huge number of women to get out to the polls, and vote Kamala.

Get off your duff and vote! Or sit on your duff and vote by mail, like I did.

Given all of that, Kamala/Coach has a lock on this election. But don’t let that make you lazy. Get off your duff and vote! Or sit on your duff and vote by mail, like I did.

My only doubt vis-à-vis the presidency race is our absurd electoral college system, where only the votes in the five or six swing states really count. Something needs to be done about that.

Democracy will live to fight another day!

So stop worrying about democracy. Dark Brandon, Kamala Harris, and Coach Walz have done their jobs well, and democracy will live to fight another day.

That said, I do worry, and worry hard, about whether the voters will give President Harris a blue House and a blue Senate. Because it is only with a blue Congress that her administration and the country can make real progress toward restoring the health of the democracy.

And real progress toward starting to solve the country’s huge problems like voting reform, wealth inequality, systemic racism, prison reform, immigration, and a rigged Supreme Court.

And real progress toward starting to solve the world’s huge problems like climate resilience, pandemic readiness, and the rising tide of war.

If we don’t give the Harris administration a blue House and a blue Senate, they may still accomplish some good things, like the Biden administration has done. But it will be too little, too late. We’ve come to the point in the history of civilization where the clock has run out. By the next presidential election in 2028, if there is one, global warming will be in runaway and climate disasters will be too numerous and too severe for the country and the world to cope with. The collapse of civilization (which has already begun) will truly be upon us.

I wish I was being histrionic, but I’m not. This is fact. This is what is happening.

I don’t believe for a second that a Harris administration with a blue House and Senate can save us from the imminent fall of civilization due to climate change. That’s baked in at this point. But they may be able to lengthen the runway just a bit.

And they may be able to soften the blow.

You probably don’t agree with me about the climate catastrophe crashing civilization by 2030. That’s okay. We’ll know for sure pretty soon. I hope I’m wrong. (There’s just all that pesky data!)

But even if we have until 2040 or 2050 — especially if we have until 2040 or 2050 — that’s all the more reason why we need a blue administration NOW to start really working on the problem. More accurately, to really ramp up working on the problem, since the Biden/Harris administration has at least begun to take the issue seriously.

Get out there and vote Blue up and down the ticket!!!

So get out there and vote Blue up and down the ticket!!!

Let’s vote Congress blue!
