Am I the only one who didn't care for The Shining? Maybe because I read Stephen King's terrifying novel beforehand. I was so disappointed that there weren't giant topiary animals that came alive! Also, Nicholson's performance was just too over-the-top for me. And I seem to recall that the movie changed the fate of Scatman Crothers' character, although he was great in the part.

In addition, I laughed my head off during The Exorcist. Maybe because I was drunk at the time. But again, I had read the horrifying book first.
