What happened was a very pleasing all-the-way-around solution: the character Vanessa transitioned to become Victor, and it was no big deal to anyone except for Victor, exactly as usually happens in real life. On the one hand, I think Elliot was lucky to be working in a series that could easily accommodate a character's gender transition. On the other hand, in what series would that not be possible?
