Besides the example given in the article, where an AI is directed to "save the planet," watch the 2014 Johnny Depp movie Transcendence. It's not realistic (at least I hope not) but it gives a flavor. In particular, it shows how an AI can do things in the physical world, not just answer questions. Or watch WarGames from 1983 for that matter.
