Excellent article, John. But I think you are making it much too complex. As to the ethics question, the climate/ecological catastrophe proves that our technological society is ethically bankrupt anyway, so all bets are off. As to hacking, just crash all the computers, monkey-wrench the oil refineries and LNG terminals, and disable the electrical grid. All that is going to happen anyway, as the climate goes nutz, so if the hackers can accelerate it, maybe some small fraction of humanity will have a chance to survive.
