Funny thing is, we've had portable nuclear power for a long time, since almost the beginning. Namely: Nuclear submarines. To my understanding, the sub reactors have been extremely reliable and safe. But if you are talking about the new Small Modular Reactors, I believe they are still some decades off and not as cost effective as their big brothers.
