A very short story

Gus took Mindy Rae to the dance, chaperoned by his hound Greywolf.

Gus and Mindy had finshed but one dance when the bandits attacked. Gus grabbed a shotgun he had left leaning against the wall, and Blam! Blam! Down went two bandits. He swung the Winchester repeating rifle around from his back and took out a dozen more. Then, out came the six-shooters. With the pistol in his right hand, he took down five bandits. With the left, four more.

Gus dropped to one knee to present a smaller profile as he re-loaded. But first, he pulled the big Bowie knife from his boot and sent it spinning end-over-end to where it was buried itself in the chest of another bandit.

At the end, Gus was frantically reloading his six-shooters as the rest of the bandits descended on him. Amidst the chaos, Greywolf led Mindy Rae to safety.

Author’s note: I cannot write fiction—my imagination just doesn’t work that way. But I dreamed I wrote this short story and I woke up with the last line in my head. I had to write the story for real. I didn’t have to publish it, but what the heck. At least I didn’t take up too much of your time, dear reader.

Nice to have a place where my writing can be ignored by millions
