Hey Andrew! As an industry insider, maybe you can address this question. Given that a practical commercial fusion reactor is 10, 20 ,50 years away, or never, are there any other benefits that society is getting from all the fusion investment? You know, like they justify the space program by the fact that it gave us Tang, the crystallised breakfast drink. I know of one benefit from fusion development: The high-power lasers they created may be able to punch very deep holes into the earth for geothermal power anywhere, and horizontal holes for routing cables underground. What else?
