Hi Richard. I'm just above Santa Cruz in the Felton hills, adjacent to Scott's Valley. (Been here 15 years, still haven't met Scott.) I was living in San Jose when the '89 quake struck. Knocked down all of the chimneys in these hills, if not the homes themselves. I was working with one guy who moved a trailer onto his property and lived in it with his wife for a year while they rebuilt the house. I guess I didn't think of earthquakes in the context of this article because I know THE BIG ONE is overdue and it scares me to death! Also it's not particularly climate-related, although I've read that melting glaciers are redistributing enough weight to trigger some earthquakes. I doubt that applies to the San Andrea fault in CA though.
