I enjoyed your discussion of spoilers in this and in your prior article, Alex. I've enjoyed the reader's comments as well. Did you read Richard Greene's book "Spoiler Alert!"? I don't know that I'm invested enough in the topic to read a whole book on it, but I'd be interested in your reaction to it.

A couple of comments of my own: Given the usual clarity of your writing, Alex, I found the conflation of spoiler alerts and the spoilers themselves rather unexpected and confusing. I think I get what you are saying about spoilers, but I'm not sure whether you are also objecting to having a "Spoiler alert" warning at the beginning of an article that contains spoilers. I'm not sure about the former, but I definitely support the latter.

Another point that screams out to me is the hypocrisy of the studios that whine about spoiler alerts, but the damn trailers for the movies almost always spoil the entire plot!
