I like your two selections, Steve. I couldn't have told you the Pride and Prejudice line myself, or, upon hearing the line, say what book it is from. (Though I've read it, of course.) But notice that the criteria is "most famous" first line, not "the best". Nonetheless, all three lines are certainly contenders for "the best!"
