I think maybe the thing that threw the movie off as a great comedy was Leo. He's a wonderful dramatic actor, but he just does not have a comic flair. I could see it in every scene with Leo and J-Law -- J-Law made the scene funnier, even when she wasn't doing something funny, but Leo made it less funny, even when he as doing something funny. I glanced through his IMDB listing and maybe I missed something, but Wolf of Wall Street and maybe his breakout film Gilbert Grape are really the only comic rolls he's ever played. Those two films worked very well, so maybe it goes to McKay's direction, but I think that a Will Ferrell or Will Arnett or any of dozens of other comic actors would have made the film really click. Or even if they just switched the Leo and Jonah Hill rolls -- now that would have been a scream!
