I worked at Tandem Computers in the 1980s. Their whole thing was "NonStop Computers" so they did a lot of research into what makes computers stop. What they found was that the #1 factor that correlated with computer failures was having a technician in the room. LOL So it would seem that the correct action was to never do preventative maintenance, but of course that is not the right answer.
