I'm not a smart as you two gentlemen, but I believe that the mechanism that causes the 4dC rise to be baked in is the greenhouse gasses lingering in the atmosphere, continuing to trap excess heat on the planet for decades to come, even if all technology and industry stopped tomorrow. Whew, that was a long sentence!
