I'm on my second Nissan LEAF. Nissan has been doing EV research and prototypes longer than Tesla has existed. I know this because I went to a LEAF test drive event a little before the first LEAF delivery in the USA. There was a pretty long queue waiting for test drives, and the line meandered through a tent that exhibited the history of Nissan's EV research.
