My Favorite Medium Authors…
… who do NOT write about climate change
My recent column Medium Climate Change Authors I Follow was surprisingly popular. So here is a follow-on listicle about other Medium authors I love. Somehow my snark engine failed me here, so these are just some boring blurbs for super not-boring writers.
A good way to start off the New Year, wouldn’t you say? Maybe help you pick up a couple of new faves for 2023?
Erik Engheim: Norwegian fellow, writes slightly longer form, fascinating articles about technology (software and computers) and history, often about how aspects of culture developed differently in different places.
fatfish: Great JavaScript coding tips. (I write JavaScript for a living.) Great user name! Great profile pic:
Arthur Keith: The only repeat from my climate change authors list! Arthur made that list because his occasional posts about climate change are fact-based and important. But he writes on a variety of topics. I find it particularly fascinating when he writes about his experiences as a gay man of a certain age (sometimes NSFW!; sometimes painfully personal). Because, as a trans woman myself, I’ve spent quite a bit of time in LGBT communities, but I’ve always had hard time understanding gay men. They usually have a hard time understand trans women, so it is tit-for-tat there.
Sean Kernan: The ultimate www writer and whitest person I know of; consistently unique and interesting topics, plus occasional more personal columns. Sean doesn’t need my recommendation, he has 75K followers!
Larry Lambert: Larry is a humor writer whose beat is being old. He probably doesn’t have a single reader under the age of 60, but if you are over 60, you will love him! His gentle, sly humor, factoid listicles, and clever cartoons are not to be missed.
Alex Mell-Taylor: Incisive commentary on culture and news; I often feel more “woke” after reading an AMT column.
Ethan Siegel: Physics and cosmology from a cosmologist and excellent science communicator. 166K followers, the winner on this list. However, I don’t think Medium is Ethan’s primary media outlet because he never responds to Medium commenters. But there are plenty of smart Medium readers that usually provide answers.
Logan Silkwood: Young(-ish) polyamorous trans dude writes about his life and trans issues. He is so loveable! (…and since he is polyamorous, maybe I have a chance? LOL)
Attila Vágó: Tech reviewer, Apple lover (Apple, not apples, though maybe he likes them too), and LEGO enthusiast. Takes his writing business and Medium quite seriously and shares his insights from time to time. Attila is was born in Hungary and lives in Ireland, so I feel like reading him broadens my (American) horizons a bit and helps me see ways in which we are a little bit different but all the same. And who doesn’t love a person who has a hobby (LEGO) about which they are passionate?
