Once when I was in management, my most experienced engineer got a nice fat raise. Soon after, my boss came to me and said, "Well I guess that means you get a raise too!" It quite surprised me at the time, but I guess it goes that way often, behind the scenes. I took the raise! I've also heard of secret management bonux plans, but I never was in one.
