Others will be better equipped to comment on this aspect, but skillset improvement is why VR has been used for pilot and astronaut training and I think other military applications for decades. Except instead of a VR headset, they use cockpit simulators, where the windows in a real cockpit are replaced with computer screens -- I'm sure you've seen it in movies.
