Self-drivving systems don't need to be perfect. They just need to be better than humans. And that is in the aggregate, not in specific individual cases. The single biggest casue of traffic accidents is driver inattention. The AI's attention never wavers. (Unless the car manufacturer cheaped out and put in an underpowered AI processor.)
