Similarly, I was surprised to learn that my Nissan LEAF battery-electric vehicle has a standard 12V lead-acid automotive battery that runs the accessories (radio, heating, lights, etc.). The car will not start if the 12V battery is discharged even if the EV batteries are 100% charged. Though my EV cannot jump-start an internal-combustion engine (ICE) car, so don't ask!
