Similarly tone deaf film: Last night I happened to watch a Ryan Reynolds movie, The Voices, about a mentally ill serial killer, played as a dark comedy. I like Reynolds (who doesn't?) so I watched it through though I was offended by the link between mental illness and serial killings. I thought, this must be from very early in Reynolds' career. They couldn't make a movie like this today! But I looked it up, and it was made in 2014. In that case, very tone deaf and offensive. Reynolds should have known better.
