Simple! If you roll 10 dice enough times, eventually they will come up with ten 1s. In the evolution story, the dice are rolled an awfully lot of times over billions of years. If the dice are genes, ten 1s may just happen to have a procreation/survival advantage, and then it's survival of the fittest.
