There are no philosophical underpinnings to the so-called democracy we have today in the US, probably in the UK too. One-person-one-vote makes sense only if every person is educated and aware. Now we are quite deliberately keeping most of the voters uneducated and unaware, just playing video games and watching TikToks. "I love the uneducated." Elections are really just marketing exercises. Throw the electoral college on top of that, in the U.S., and the whole thing is quite absurd.
