Two summers ago, I put in a big Generac generator piped to my big propane tank and I thought I had it wired. Last winter was mild, but I'm here in the California ranistorms, today in day 5 of a power outage. The propane tank got so low that I had to turn off the generator after day 3. Day 4, the propane tanker showed up for a refill ($900) though I had called them 3 days prior. So putting in a generator helps, but it is not a panacea.
