We also evacuated in the CZU fire in the Santa Cruz mountains. We had nothing ready to go. It wasn't until we woke up one morning to an orange sky and an evacuation order that we packed up the car and cat and took off. We're in Felton, a small mountain community with a single road (Hwy 9) in and out. There were no traffic jams, we got out clean. Maybe we were just lucky, but I don't choose to live my life in paranoia. Maybe if we had kids at home we would have a different attitude. However, there were a few tips in this article I will likely follow so thanks, Survivor. I'm glad you survived.
